Summer Champagne, Fine Art Print by Laurel Moore
21 cm width by 29.7 cm height
In summer I collected these wild flowers on a woodland walk in Neuchatel, Switzerland. When I returned home to put them into a glass of water, the sun touched the stems with an extraordinary fizzing light, reminding me of bubbles of champagne. The summer flowers were such a fizz of softness and life and were so delicious that I called my oil painting 'Summer Champagne'. In my studio I played with the light by darkening the backdrop, so that with my oil paints I could focus the intensity of the light into the glass by way of using the dark contrast. It brought an incredible light into the glass, so that it seemed that all of nature was being born in one glass.
